Gmail has its own ad formats that combines the power of PPC targeting and the effectiveness of an eDM campaign. But where are ads being shown?
Next to opened emails
A so called teaser ad is being shown with a small picture and your teaser ad text where the user can click on. This click is the only paid part of the creative. Clicking on the teaser ad an email is being opened where the content is being uploaded by us: it can be a simple image or even a custom HTML content with lots of links pointing to your website. All clicks in those emails are free thus you only have to pay for email opens.
If the user enabled the Promotions tab on GMail, your ad can show up as a sponsored promotion at the top of the list. The user can see the same teaser text along with your subject line to open your email.
